When My Breath Found Me Again

Renate ~ LightSoul Holistic

I remember the day my breath ran away from me.

It was during a time when everything felt uncertain — too many responsibilities, too many thoughts crowding my mind. I’d wake in the night, heart racing, breath shallow, wondering how something as invisible as worry could feel so heavy.

One morning, I sat on the edge of my bed, eyes closed, and whispered to myself, “Just breathe.” At first, it felt impossible. My chest was tight. My mind was louder than the inhale. But slowly, as I paid attention, the air began to soften me.

Inhaling through the nose, I counted to four. Holding it there, I counted again. Then exhaling — a slow release, like setting something free. That was my first experience of box breathing: a small, square of calm in a chaotic world.

Over time, I learned that breathing wasn’t just about survival — it was about connection. Each breath drew me back to the present moment, back to the quiet truth that I was safe, here, and alive.

Sometimes, when I guide clients through these same techniques, I can see the exact moment their body remembers peace. The shoulders drop, the eyes soften, and suddenly the breath returns home — just as mine once did.

If anxiety has been visiting you lately, try pausing for a moment today. Feel your feet on the floor. Inhale deeply, exhale slowly, and imagine the air carrying away everything you no longer need.

The breath doesn’t judge, doesn’t rush, doesn’t demand. It simply waits — ready to bring you back to yourself. I feel enormous gratitude to be here and alive!
