What’s a moment in your life that made you feel truly alive?

It was the fourth day of a Vipassana retreat.
For three days, there had been the breath.
In. Out.
The small, faithful movement of air beneath the nose, observed again and again until attention itself seemed to become quieter.
Then came Vipassana.
We began to move awareness through the body, noticing sensation without grasping, resisting, naming, or trying to change what was there.
And somewhere on the cusp between Anapana and Vipassana, something happened that I still do not quite have words for.
My whole body seemed to change.
There was heat, but not simply warmth. There was lightness, but not the ordinary feeling of being light. And through everything moved a fine, shimmering vibration, almost like thousands of tiny points of energy flickering beneath the skin.
For a moment, I no longer felt entirely solid.
I remember thinking that if there had been a mirror in front of me, perhaps I would not have seen myself in the usual way at all.
Perhaps there would have been no clear edges.
No familiar outline.
Only light.
Only vibration.
A body revealed not as something fixed, but as movement. Energy. Sensation. Something alive at a level too small and too vast to see.
It felt almost atomic.
As though, for the briefest moment, I had slipped beneath the appearance of myself and touched the ceaseless trembling of being.
And yet Vipassana teaches us not to cling even to this.
Pleasant sensation arises.
Pleasant sensation passes.
To long for its return would be to turn a moment of presence into an object of desire.
So I hold the memory lightly.
I do not know whether I am even meant to remember it so vividly. Perhaps part of the practice is allowing even extraordinary experiences to dissolve back into the river of everything else.
But I remember this:
for those few moments, I did not feel as though I were thinking about being alive.
I was simply inside aliveness itself.
Heat.
Light.
Vibration.
No story.
No explanation.
Just the astonishing fact of existence, shimmering through the body.
And perhaps that is the closest I have ever come to understanding what it means to be truly alive.💜
PS : This is a deeply personal reflection, and I am not sure words can ever fully frame the experience. Perhaps they are only a way of standing at its edge.
