When the Decision Becomes Yours: Smoking and Transpersonal Hypnosis

There can be a long distance between knowing you should stop smoking and feeling ready to do it.

Perhaps people have been asking you for years. Perhaps you have promised yourself that this packet will be the last. Yet the cigarette is still there at the end of a difficult day, in the quiet after a meal, or in the few minutes you have managed to claim for yourself.

Smoking can become attached to moments that matter. That does not mean you lack willpower. It means there is something to understand about the place it has taken in your life.

I know that place personally. I smoked for more than twenty years before I stopped using self-hypnosis. Since then, I have worked with people who have stopped smoking through hypnosis, each with their own history and their own reason for wanting change. My experience has taught me to listen closely to that reason.

A partner, parent or friend can care deeply about your health. Their concern can be part of what makes you think. But they cannot make this decision for you. For that reason, I ask people seeking my help to contact me themselves. The work needs to begin with your voice, even if that voice is still finding the words to say, I want to stop.

I will ask what has brought you to this point. What would change if you no longer smoked? What does a cigarette give you now, and what might feel difficult to let go of? Your reason might be about health, freedom, money, family, or the simple weariness of feeling that a habit is choosing for you. It need not sound dramatic. It needs to be yours, and strong enough that you want to return to it when stopping becomes difficult.

Transpersonal hypnotherapy gives us a focused, reflective space to explore those familiar moments. We can notice what happens just before you reach for a cigarette: the feeling, the expectation, the small inward movement towards something known. Through hypnosis, imagery and conversation, we can work with the meaning smoking has held for you and begin to make room for another response.

You remain aware and in control throughout. I cannot take away your choice, and hypnosis cannot make it on your behalf. We work together, with your consent, at a pace that allows us to understand what you need. Before beginning, we also discuss your circumstances to make sure the approach is appropriate for you.

Stopping smoking can involve cravings and setbacks. Having a strong reason does not make every moment easy, and finding a moment difficult does not make your reason any less real. What matters is that there is somewhere within you to return to when the old pattern calls.

Research has yet to establish how reliably hypnosis helps people stop smoking. I cannot promise an outcome. I can offer the way I work: a space to take your wish to stop seriously, to explore the hold smoking has had, and to practise meeting those familiar moments with greater choice.

There comes a point, sometimes quiet and almost unnoticed, when the question changes. It is no longer How do I make myself stop for someone else? It becomes What do I want for my own life now?

If you are standing at that threshold, you are welcome to contact me yourself. We can begin with your reason.

  1. Sounds like a good approach. I would love to read more about your experience helping others to stop smoking.

    1. Yes, it is. Making a decision to change is crucial. Transformation often happens when conscious effort gives way to subconscious alignment. Feedback is the only way to evident my guiding individuals, who are the ones making the change. I appreciate your comment, thank you.🧡
